Tuesday at home

Tuesdays are usually a home day. We tend to focus on lots of independent reading, since there's time, and getting up to date on math work. Truman is loving the book SilverFin  and Chester is reading yet another Hardy Boys book. A lot of time today was spent reading.
I gave Truman a new math curriculum to try called Teaching Textbooks and it seems to be a hit, at least for now. He completed the first lesson for Grade 7 (as per the placement test) and liked it.

Chester is still using Saxon and we completed many of the problems (I do not require him to do them all since it makes the lesson ridiculously long, in my opinion) and he is really getting comfortable with regrouping, word problems and finding the missing number in addition and subtraction problems.
Both boys have started doing copy work, using the Brave Writer curriculum and, specifically, The Arrow. Truman often prefers to do his copy work on the computer, while chester takes his time since he is not only learning about punctuation, grammar and spelling, but also practicing his lower case letters. Truman copied a passage from Harry Potter, which included a lot of dialogue. We discussed indenting with each new speaker and using quotation marks, italics, commas and exclamation points. Chester continued copying from a Greek myth, focusing on basic punctuation and capitalization.

Both boys practiced their music (Truman guitar and Chester piano) and Truman had rehearsal for the musical Into the Woods. Chester had a playdate with a new friend from our homeschool group who lives…wait for it--- only a few blocks away!
